A few weeks ago we had our second annual pilgrimage to the mountains of Georgia with our great group of friends who we affectionately call the “wolf pack”  This year I decided to make plans to do some portraits of my lovely wife Jennifer with my old Hasselblad which I had recently had repaired.  It’s been over 10 years since I’ve shot film –  other than a frame here and there with my good friend Justin (who actually was the one that got me back interested in getting my camera fixed).   I also didn’t realize that it had been that long since I had taken any planned pictures of Jenn.  Wow!   I’m not an overly sentimental person (as those who know me well will agree) and I tend to live more in the here and now than the past or future.  Not sure if this is a good quality or not 🙂  I must say though, it was pretty cool and nostalgic to pick up the camera that I started my professional career with and create some beautiful portraits of my love.  I definitely have changed my style a lot over the years and never shot film quite this way before.  I think digital has allowed me to be more creative and experiment along the way while developing a style of my own that would have taken me a lot longer to arrive at had I only shot film.  There’s just something about the look of film with a medium format camera that you just can’t get with a standard digital camera and that’s a fact.  I’m not quite sure how I will incorporate film into what I’m currently doing but I’m definitely going to keep shooting it more especially for my own fun.  I hope you enjoy these images that I’m sharing and would love to hear what you think….

Groom: Andrew Cappiello
Ceremony: St Michael the Archangel Catholic Church- Clearwater, FL;
Reception: Innisbrook Resort and Golf Club- Palm Harbor, FL
“We had a traditional catholic wedding with our reception to follow at Innisbrook Resort and Golf Club. We invisioned a fun, yet classy, simple, clean cut spring wedding with our friends and family. We kept our reception decor simple with white linens, navy blue bands, and white up-lighting. We embraced both of our cultures by importing in hand painted ceramic plates from Spain and traditional bonbonerie from Italy that we gave out in little white boxes with navy ribbon as our favors. Our reception centerpieces were tall calla lilies in clear vases and my bouquet held all of my favorite flowers which included, peonies, 2 types of orchids, lily of the valley, freesia, and fern for a touch of green.  Andrew even got to design his own boutonniere with Debbie that allowed for him have his own custom look from the other groomsmen. Our DJ kept the dancing going on all night and everyone left with tons of memories from our wedding just like we had hoped. We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect day!”

Tampa Garden Club Engagement Session

Tampa Garden Club Engagement Session

I know it’s been a while since I’ve posted to the blog so I decided to do a post about a topic that I have had a lot of questions about lately and that is “the Engagement Session”  Why do an engagement session?  A lot of couples that I meet with have already decided to do an engagement session before they even talk to me so that’s easy but there is always those who haven’t thought about it or decided yet.  Often they’re not sending out save the date cards or wanting any other pictures besides the wedding photos.  I totally get that.  For them, the main reason I explain that I love to do an engagement session is to get a head start on the wedding day.   This gives us some time to hang out and get to know each other without the schedule or pressure of the wedding day.  I can see how they interact together, which poses work for them, and the type of pictures they gravitate towards.  It also gets them comfortable in front of the camera and most the time they realize that it’s a lot more fun than they expected.  Especially the guys.  The engagement session also gives us the opportunity to use a location that is different from where the wedding will be held and adds some variety to the mix of pictures they will receive.  Lastly, most of my couples have been ordering an album from their session that is used as a guest sign-in book.  Instead of a boring list of names that will get packed in a box somewhere (and never looked at again) they end up with a beautiful keepsake that they are proud to display and I’m sure will enjoy looking at and reading all the notes from their guests.  So, I hope this helps clarify some questions you might have had about the Engagement Session and I look forward to planning out some fun sessions soon.  Enjoy!
